The electronic cigarette is a marvel of electronics age, delivering an authentic smoking experience but without the deadly side effects.
It’s The ultimate Smoking Alternative!
So what is an Electronic Cigarette?
Simply put, the Electronic Cigarette (also known as an electric cigarette or e-cig) is a device that imitates the tobacco smoking experience, without the use of tobacco or the harmful smoke.
Most electronic cigarettes are designed to look like a typical factory made tobacco cigarette complete with filter tip, white body, glowing tip when the user inhales and even imitation smoke in the form of a vapour, so from a distance they are often mistaken for real tobacco cigarettes.
The vapour that the electronic cigarette generates is produced from a water & nicotine mix that looks just like real smoke, provides a real smoking sensation in the throat, and provides a small dose of nicotine to satisfy the smokers cravings.
Since these products contain no tobacco and do not require a naked flame to light them, the user can continue the smoking experience, but without the smoke and harmful chemicals associated with tobacco based products.
How Do Electronic Cigarettes Work?
The average electronic cigarette is made up of 3 parts:
- Rechargeable Battery
- Atomiser Device
- Nicotine Cartridge

When the user inhales on the nicotine cartridge, it causes a flow of air to pass through the body of the unit triggering the battery to heat the atomiser device, this in-turn heats the nicotine solution inside the cartridge which produces the nicotine and water vapour that simulates smoke, and provides the nicotine hit that smokers crave.
Is It Actually Like Smoking A Real
Tobacco Cigarette?
In all truthfulness I’d have to say that using an electronic cigarette isn’t exactly the same as smoking a tobacco based cigarette. Id say there are three main differences:
- You’ll find the electronic version slightly larger and heavier than a tobacco cigarette.
- You need to draw on the electronic cigarette for longer than you would a tobacco cigarette to produce a decent amount of vapour.
- Electronic cigarettes have a different taste to the tobacco cigarette, tobacco is a hard flavour to duplicate.
Now weigh those differences against the benefits:
- Normally a lot cheaper than tobacco cigarettes.
- Not affected by the smoking ban.
- No hazardous smoke, tar or the associated harmful chemicals.
- No burning parts so you won’t accidentally set your furniture on fire.
- Different strength nicotine cartridges put you in charge of your nicotine intake.
- No unpleasant tobacco odours.
I’m an ex tobacco smoker, and I admit that the electronic cigarette felt a bit strange to start with, but after a week or so I got used to it and now prefer it to tobacco based products.
